Waterbury firefighters were forced to take a defensive approach when a large fire at a furniture store began burning out of control Monday morning.
The blaze broke out at about 6:20 a.m. at a one-story commercial building housing a furniture and mattress store at 1311 South Main Street, according to Fox 61.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the building and began with an aggressive interior attack, but the fire worsened about an hour later and crews pulled back into a defensive posture. Fox 61 reports that a portion of the building collapsed, but there were no injuries and no other structures had been damaged.
Officials say the fire is not yet under control, though it has been knocked down considerably.
