Curia Tapped to Lead Charleston, SC, Fire Dept.

March 30, 2018
Daniel Curia will leave his post as fire chief in Durham, NC, to lead the Charleston Fire Department in late July.

Veteran fire officer Daniel Curia will take over the top post at the Charleston Fire Department.

Chief Karen Brack stepped down in April 2017 and Assistant Chief John Tippett Jr. has been acting chief since.

Curia, who is currently the fire chief in Durham, NC, was selected from a pool of over 100 applicants, according to The Post and Courier.

He said he wants to focus firefighter health, fire safety systems in structures around the city, and raise the public's understanding of  emergency situations during his interviews with City Council earlier this year.

Curia began his career in the fire service 28 years ago and was named chief in Durham in 2013.

He will take the helm on July 30 with a salary of $165,000.
