After a San Antonio firefighter was fired for a racist Facebook post, SAFD Chief Charles Hood has called for patience and civil discourse during the nationwide protests against police brutality.

After a San Antonio firefighter was fired for a racist Facebook post, SAFD Chief Charles Hood is calling for patience and civil discourse during the recent nationwide protests against police brutality that erupted in the wake of the death of George Floyd.

"We all know it's been a terrible time for this nation," Chief Hood says in a recent video address to his personnel. "What I'm asking for is your patience, and to try and look through somebody else's lens."

In a statement released last week, the SAFD said that the unidentified firefighter and 10-year department veteran posted a "racially derogatory comment/image" along with an "incendiary and threatening comment regarding recent protests."

"The City of San Antonio and the SAFD consider these posts absolutely unacceptable and reprehensible," the statement said.
