SC Fire Chief Resigns Amid Financial Probe

Wagener Chief David Watson led the department for the past two-and-a-half years.

Wagener Fire Chie David Watson has resigned as authorities conduct a probe into finances.

Among the documents being examined are Watson's overtime claims, according to WJBF. 

Watson, who has served as chief for the past two-and-a-half years, put in for overtime weekly, reports indicated. 

Tillman Rushton, a 10-year fire department member, has been appointed interim chief.

The county also conducting an audit of how the fire fees are spent. The financial review occurs when there's any change in leadership, according to the county administrator.
