KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI — Former Comstock Township Deputy Fire Chief Michael Dyer was sentenced in court today, after previously pleading no contest in a drunken driving case.

Dyer was sentenced to 18 months of probation on Monday, Nov. 10, in Kalamazoo County District Court, WWMT reported.

In September, he pleaded no contest to one count of operating intoxicated causing serious injury after he was arrested for allegations he ran into a child while drunk driving, court records show.

Dyer, 63, did not admit guilt with his plea, but accepts the punishment associated with the charges.

A restitution hearing will be held in the future.

He was driving a 2020 Ford F-450 in a June 22 crash at 12:01 a.m. hitting an 11-year-old girl, causing a fractured bone that required surgery, according to a police report.

Dyer was taken to the Kalamazoo County Jail, where he blew a blood alcohol content of .158, and then .146 when tested again at 1:06 a.m.

The legal limit for driving in Michigan is .08.

Dyer was placed on paid administrative leave in mid-September after the incident, a township official said. He was fired on Sept. 29, by unanimous vote of the board.
