Roswell firefighter John Kevin Cash had worked a 24-hour shift Monday and was discovered when the incoming day crew arrived at the firehouse the next morning.

A Georgia firefighter was found dead in a fire station bunk room Tuesday following a 24-hour shift, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.

Roswell firefighter John Kevin Cash had been working the shift Monday, and when the incoming day crew arrived Tuesday morning, they discovered Cash hadn't gone home, the federal agency said in an alert. Cash's fellow firefighter went to his bunk room to wake him and found him dead.

The nature and cause of Cash's death are under investigation, the USFA added.

Along with working part time for the Roswell Fire Department, Cash also had served as "a dedicated member" of the McDonough Fire Department since 2001, the department said in an online post.
