A fire chief in a northwestern South Carolina community passed away earlier this month when he suffered a heart attack while dining with his wife at a restaurant following a canceled call.
The U.S. Fire Administration announced Tuesday that Campobello Fire Chef William Edward McNeill, Jr., 69, had responded to a residential structure fire call that was canceled en route on March 4 before he suffered the medical emergency later that evening.
Chief McNeill was a 44-year veteran of the fire service.
