Collapse Kills 3 Firefighters in Dominican Republic

A roof collapse left three firefighters dead and several injured as crews battled a building fire in the Dominican Republic city of La Vega.

Three firefighters were killed when the roof collapsed as the battled a commercial fire in the Dominican Republic city of La Vega Wednesday.

Killed were Major Juan María Concepción, 53, Second Lieutenant Olvi Arias, 27, and Sergeant Major José Luis Mojica, 55, Diario Digital reports.

Several firefighters were also injured in the tragic blaze, which officials said low water pressure hampered their efforts to contain the fire, according to Acento.

The fire was reported about 3 p.m. and from firefighters several provinces responded to the scene, Emergency Operations Center General Juan Manuel Méndez told local media.

Five ambulances were called to the scene.
