A battalion chief with the Jersey City Fire Department has died following his 24-hour shift on Dec. 8, 2021.
Ruddy was at home after completing his shift when he suffered a medical emergency, according to a Facebook post by the Professional Firefighters Association of New Jersey.
He was rushed to a local hospital for emergency care where he passed away.
According to a release from the U.S. Fire Administration, Ruddy suffered a heart attack after a shift that included two cooking-related fires, and a gas leak.
Ruddy started his career with Jersey City in 1994.
He leaves behind a wife and daughter.
