Firefighter Martin Tremblay of the Boischatel / L’Ange-Gardien Fire Safety Service was killed when the structure collapsed at a Boischatel house fire.

A Boischatel / L’Ange-Gardien Fire Safety Service firefighter was killed when the structure collapsed on him as he was fighting a fire in Boischatel, near Quebec, on Saturday evening.

Martin Tremblay, 43, was working with several other departments battling the fire on du Silex Street around 11:30 p.m. when the collapse occurred.

According to CBC News, the fire started in the garage and quickly spread into the house.

Crews were able to free Tremblay and transport him to a local hospital were he later lost his life.

Tremblay, who was a volunteer firefighter and worked for Quebec City, leaves behind three daughters.

Quebec's Public Security Minister Geneviève Guilbault tweeted Sunday morning, “A second firefighter in two months loses his life saving the lives of others. Altruism in its purest form, which commands infinite respect. To his family, to colleagues who were on the same operation and to his entire team at the barracks, we are with you.”
