COVID Claims MI Firefighter

DeWitt Firefighter/Paramedic James Swindlehurst succumbed to COVID on Dec. 24 after contracting the illness while in the line-of-duty.

The DeWitt Area Firefighters Association announced a member of their department passed away Dec. 24 after contracting COVID-19 while on duty.

James Swindlehurst worked for DeWitt Township Fire Department and Mercy Ambulance, and contracted the virus on Dec. 1, according to a GoFundMe page.

In a Facebook post, DeWitt Area Firefighters Association said, “James was a Firefighter with DeWitt Township Fire Department, and a very highly respected Paramedic with Mercy Ambulance.” 

GoFundMe has been established to help his family.
