FL Firefighter Succumbs to Occupational Cancer

Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department Firefighter/Paramedic Nate Leonard died after a two-year battle with cancer.

The Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department announced the death passing of a firefighter/paramedic following a two-year battle with job-related cancer.

Nate Leonard, 43, joined the department on April 9, 2007 was assigned to Station 95 before he passed.

Throughout his career, Leonard earned numerous accolades including: a Unit Citation, three Lifesaving Commendations and a Meritorious Duty Commendation. 

“Nate was a true public servant, he was brave in his duties as a firefighter and paramedic, but equally brave as he faced and fought cancer," Fire Chief Michael McNally said. "While we are heartbroken by his death, our focus is on Nate’s family and providing them with the support and comfort they need as we prepare to lay Nate, a true hero, to rest.”

He is survived by his wife, parents and sister.
