MN Firefighter Dies on Storm Spotter Duty

Blomkest firefighter Ryan Erickson was surveying incoming weather when the storm toppled a grain bin on his vehicle.

A Blomkest firefighter was killed Thursday night after a grain bin fell collapsed while he was working in the role of a storm spotter.

Ryan Erickson, 63, was killed when the high winds collapsed the grain bin on his car.

"He was very committed to the fire department, and they do a lot for the city because they save lives," Blomkest City Clerk Barb Gilberts told the Star Tribune.

Erickson joined the fire department when he was 18, and served as fire chief for several years.
