Funeral Set for NY Firefighter Who Died on Duty

Funeral services are set for Monday for a New York firefighter who collapsed and died on Oct. 20.

Emergency Control/Global Foundries Senior Fire Technician Robert Van Tassell, 64, was stricken while running.

Van Tassell was the former chief and commissioner at Chelsea Fire Company, according to his obituary

In a statement announcing the line-of-duty death, State Fire Administrator James B. Cable directed all CFPC uniformed personnel to display the black mourning band on their uniform badge until sunset of the day Van Tassell is laid to rest.

Visitation will be held from 2-6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24 at McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc. 1089 Main St. Fishkill, NY. A firematic funeral service will begin at 6 pm.

Family and friends are welcome to join in the Celebration of his Life at Hidden Rose Catering Hall at 7 pm, following the funeral service.
