A West Virginia firefighter died Monday while responding to a house fire in Bradshaw.
War Deputy Fire Chief Jeffrey Lawson, 54, was riding in an engine when he told the driver he didn't feel well and needed assistance.
The driver immedately turned around and headed toward Welch Community Hospital and met an ambulance while en route, according to WV Metro News.
Lawson lost consciousness on the way to the hospital. He was later pronounced dead.
His body was transported to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
While battling the fire in his house, Bradshaw Firefighter Gary M. Coleman, 51, collapsed at the scene of smoke inhalation. He was transported to the hospital and eventually on to CAMC in Charleston. He was released after treatment.
The cause for the fire is under investigation by the state fire marhal.
