The Eau Claire Fire Department is mourning the loss of a firefighter who suffered a medical emergency after completing his shift.

On July 26, firefighter Bryce Jungbluth suffered a sudden medical emergency after he completed a shift.

"Bryce served the Eau Claire Fire Department and Carrboro Fire-Rescue with passion, dedication, courage, and honor. He cared deeply about the fire service and approached every shift with a willingness to learn, serve others, and support his fellow firefighters. His commitment to this profession and to the community he served will not be forgotten," Eau Claire Fire shared in a social media post.

"Bryce was more than a firefighter—he was a brother, a friend, and someone who answered the call to serve his community with compassion, courage, and humility. His loss leaves an immeasurable void within our department and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him,"  Local 487 shared on social media. "We will remember Bryce not only for his dedication in the line of duty, but for the kind of person he was off duty as well—someone who cared deeply about his crew, his community, and the mission of helping others on their worst days. His commitment to service reflected the very best of the fire service."

Saturday morning, a procession will bring Jungbluth home from Minneapolis, through Eau Claire and to Hayward, WI.

The department stated that members of the fire service have been holding an "Honor Watch, ensuring Bryce is never alone until he is laid to rest.  This longstanding tradition reflects the promise firefighters make to stand beside one another, both in life and in death."

A fundraising effort to help his family has been established.
