Hundreds Attend Vigil for Fallen FL Firefighter

July 22, 2022
Apopka Firefighter Austin Duran was crushed by a trailer of sand he was trying to move at his fire station.

Hundreds turned out Thursday evening to pay their respects to a young Apopka firefighter who died recently of injuries sustained during a detail at his fire station.

On June 30, Austin Duran, 25, was crushed by a sand trailer that he was trying to move. He was rushed to a hospital where he remained for several weeks before succumbing to his injuries.

Announcing his death, the department wrote: “There are truly no words for the magnitude of this particular loss. We lost our brother, our friend, and a member of our family. Our hearts are broken for our department, for Austin’s family, and for our community.”

On Saturday, there will be a procession of apparatus escorting Duran from the Loomis Funeral Home to Journey Christian Church.

The noon funeral service is for family, members of the Apopka Fire Department and local departments.
