Clinton, SC, Community Mourning Loss of Firefighter

Clinton Firefighter Michael Vinson was killed when his fire truck rolled over as he was responding to an emergency on Sunday.

The Clinton community is reeling since a beloved firefighter was killed in a fire truck rollover crash.

Michael 'Mike Mike' Vinson, 27,  another firefighter, Nathan Hall, were responding to a call Easter Sunday when their rig collided with a Lexus and rolled over several times.

Hall, who suffered several fractures, was released from the hospital on Monday.

Vinson had been a Clinton fiefighter since May 2023. He also served with the Laurens County Fire Service. 

"I pray that we would cherish the sweet memories that we have of 'Mike Mike. Lord, I want to thank you for his service, I want to thank you for his dedication. That when that alarm went off, he went with his brothers out to go help somebody," said Joanna Fire Department Chaplain Jake Patterson.

Firefighter Krystan Donya Langston told WYFF:  "All the guys at the department just loved himHe got along with everyone; he was friendly. I don't think he ever met a stranger; he was just an all-around great guy. And he will be greatly missed."

Visitation will be held starting at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Kennedy Mortuary in Laurens. It will continue  until when the family wants to stop.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Union Baptist Church on 536 Old Quaker Road. Family, firefighters who worked with Vinson, and local officials are invited to that location, while another overflow location will be held at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church in Laurens.
