A dozen units responded to a building fire in Fort Worth as heavy storms swept through the area.

Firefighters worked for an hour to contain a stubborn fire in a strip center early on March 29.

The fire was reported just before 3 a.m. in the 5300 block of Boat Club Road and crews found heavy smoke from the one-story building with two businesses. Lake Worth firefighters responded along with Fort Worth crews.

Firefighters used a defensive attack using handlines and BlitzFire devices for about 45 minutes until conditions improved, and then move to the interior to knock down remaining pockets of fire.

Crews checked the adjacent building and found no extension.

Fort Worth firefighters responded to hundreds of calls when a serious storm knocked down tress and power lines, damaged buildings and at least two fires were reported. An EF-0 tornado hit just a couple of miles northeast of this fire.
