D.C. Firefighter Shot While Treating Shooting Victim

The suspect from a shooting minutes earlier returned and opened fire, striking a D.C. Fire and EMS firefighter who was treating the first victim.

A D.C. Fire and EMS firefighter was one of two who were shot while fire and EMS crews were working at the scene of a previous shooting.

Firefighters from Engine 25 responded were called to a shooting at a 7-Eleven convience store on South Capitol Street in Southwest D.C. around 4:30 p.m.

While crews were treating the shooting victim, additional shots rang out and a firefighter and a civilian were struck, according to D.C. fire and EMS spokesman Vito Maggiolo.

Police told the Washington Post that the shooter returned a few minutes after the first shooting and opened fire. Television station WUSA9 reported that the shots were fired near a liqour store located across the street from the 7-Eleven.

The firefighter was treated for a graze wound and released from the hospital Sunday evening.

A man and woman were concious after being shot and were taken to the hosptial.

Acting Fire Chief John Donnelly told NBCWashington.com that the pumper blocked some of the shots that could have injured firefighters.

Firefighters, Donnelly added, were shook up after the incident and returned to the station.
