To many people in the fire sprinkler industry, hydraulic calculations are those mysterious numbers spit out by a computer. But the knowledge of how the computer conducts its calculations is critical to making good decisions regarding the layout of the fire sprinkler system. Understanding how the water flows through the system and the variables that are critical to system efficiency can save a contractor serious amounts of money and provide better fire protection systems. This presentation will follow the hydraulic calculation of a typical fire sprinkler system to demonstrate the simple step-by-step procedure that mirrors how the computer would calculate the same system.
