Scrap Yard Fire Tackled by Detroit Firefighters

Heavy machinery was used to move piles of debris so Detroit firefighters could get to the fires.

Detroit firefighters responded to a fire in a southwest Detroit scrap yard that broke out early Wednesday morning, officials said.

Corey McIsaac, a Detroit Fire Department spokeswoman, said the blaze is under control and no injuries were reported.

Fire crews are working with the company that owns the yard to use heavy machinery to move the piles around and extinguish the fire completely, she said.

McIsaac said firefighters received calls about the fire in the yard in the area of Dix and Lonyo shortly after 3 a.m.

She said crews arrived and battled the fire, stretching fire hoses across railroad tracks to spray more water on it.
