Wind Fans Flames at Shuttered Emporia, VA, Plywood Plant

Firefighters from Emporia and other departments battled the massive blaze at the Georgia-Pacific plant.

Firefighters battled a wind-swept fire at the shuttered Georgia-Pacific plywood plant in Emporia.

Firefighters found heavy fire coming from the plant as well as sparks flying into adjacent areas, according to the Greensville Volunteer Fire Department.

The plant abruptly closed in May 2025.
