Perry Point Veterans Affairs firefighters rescued the 93-year-old woman from a third-floor unit.

Firefighters rescued an elderly woman from an early morning fire that spread through a Perryville condominium complex Sunday.

Dozens of firefighters from Cecil and Harford counties were called out to the three-alarm fire dispatched at 2:54 a.m.

Firefighters from the Perry Point Veterans Affairs Fire Department worked their way to a third-floor unit where a 93-year-old woman was trapped, according to a release from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. She was removed from the structure and flown to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

It took firefighters four hours to bring the fire in the 3 1/2-story, 18-unit building under control.

The fire marshal's office said the fire was a total loss and the adjoining buildings sustained heat damage. Losses are estimated at $2 million.

Three more occupants were taken to area hospitals for non-life threatening injuries.
