Clackamas Fire Dist. #1 firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire from the roof line of a two-story Happy Valley home when they arrived around 6 p.m. May 21.
Firefighters began an interior attack and established a water supply at a nearby hydrant.
Arriving battalion chiefs requested a second alarm for additional crews and, after 20 minutes, firefighters transitioned to a defensive attack.
About 50 firefighters from Clackamas Fire Dist. # 1 and Portland brought the fire under control.
The homeowner returned home to find the house on fire before fire crews arrived and opened the front door to allow to dogs to escape.
No injuries were reported.
