CO Man Sets Fire by Crashing into Ex's Home

Lafayette police say a man drove a pickup filled with burning logs into his ex-girlfriend’s house Sunday, setting the house on fire.

A man drove his truck into his ex-girlfriend’s house Sunday afternoon in the 300 block of Simpson Street in Lafayette, setting the truck and house on fire, according to Lafayette police.

Logs in the bed of the truck were on fire, according to witnesses, and the fire spread to the house as the man repeatedly rammed the back of his truck into the house.

“We heard maybe five or six times that he did that,” said neighbor Vicky Uhland, who lives across the street. “He literally rammed a hole into the house. It’s pretty shocking when you see it.”

She said the man stayed in the truck as police arrived with guns drawn and didn’t leave until they shot in a pepper pellet. The woman who lives in the home escaped out the back door with her boyfriend and adult son, she said.

The man was taken to the hospital under police custody, Lafayette Sgt. Fred Palmer said. No one else was hurt.

Firefighters also put the fire out before it spread too far, Palmer said.
