The fire collapsed the La Union mobile home before South Fire District crews arrived, making it difficult to put out the flames, said a spokesperson for Doña Ana County.

DOÑA ANA COUNTY, NM A La Union family lost their mobile home in a fire Tuesday and a Sunland Park firefighter fighting the blaze was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for exhaustion.

Just before 11 a.m., firefighters from Doña Ana County's South Fire District were called to the 200 block of Fig Tree Lane. By the time they arrived part of the house had already collapsed, said Kelly Jameson, public information officer for Doña Ana County.

Because of the collapse, fighting the fire was extremely difficult, Jameson said.

Though the cause of the fire is still under investigation, the home's owner told fire officials that she believed her grill might have caught the house on fire.

No other injuries were reported during the blaze.

Jameson said 19 Doña Ana County firefighters, 14 of them volunteers, responded to the blaze, and were assisted by firefighters from El Paso County, and Sunland Park.

Doña Ana County Fire Chief Nick Hempel reports the home is a complete loss.
