As first responders, it is a part of our duty to continuously train and educate ourselves to better serve our communities. Firehouse World is the answer to our call for exceptional training opportunities and educational workshops. Coming to Las Vegas for the first time, Firehouse World is a four-day conference, held from Feb. 24 through Feb. 27, centered around fire fighters, expanding their skills and inspiring both personal and professional growth.

As the president for the Professional Fire Fighters of Nevada, I am honored that our state is the host for Firehouse World 2020. This year’s conference, which is being held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, is different from past conferences in that it is being held at a new venue, following a new format, all driven towards achieving a new vision – preparing fire fighters for any type of emergency through hands-on training.

There will be workshops, trainings and more offered throughout each day of the conference, with topics such as the 1 October shooting, crane rescue operations and mental health awareness. Hands-on training classes will be taught by renowned experts from the Clark County Fire Department (CCFD), demonstrating techniques for elevator and crane rescue emergencies, both of which the CCFD has had extensive experience due to increased construction throughout the city.

Recently retired, Clark County Fire Chief Greg Cassell will be offering a workshop focused on mass shootings, specifically the tragic events that occurred on October 1, 2017. With our city still feeling the impacts from the shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival, it has become crucial for our first responders to hear the lessons learned from that tragic night and take away critical information that can prepare their departments for a similar incident.

The world around us is changing, impacting how our first responders respond and what they respond to. Conferences such as Firehouse World are preparing our emergency response professionals to answer any call that may come in.

I encourage all of our fire fighters, especially those within my home state of Nevada, to register for Firehouse World 2020. In addition to the wealth of new information gained during the conference, attendees will also have the opportunity to enjoy Las Vegas, one of the world’s most exciting cities.
