OH Crews Battle Stubborn Pallet Factory Blaze
Source Dayton Daily News, Ohio
Fire crews worked throughout the night to put out a fire reported around 9 p.m. Saturday at Buckeye Diamond Resources, a pallet factory in South Charleston.
Madison Twp. Fire and EMS Chief Christopher Clark said 20 different departments assisted with the fire that was put out around 6:30 a.m.
The farthest traveled from Darke County.
There were approximately 65 fire response vehicles on scene.
The structure sustained significant damage, but is salvageable because of crews' efforts to keep the fire contained to the storage area of the building.
"When you burn pallets you know, they burn quick, they burn hot," Chief Clark said. "That's what we were dealing with here was a large amount a lot of pallets inside of the structure...the fire had a head start on us."
State fire marshals are on scene working to determine the cause of the fire and where it started -- an endeavor that could take days or weeks.
