A New York EMT rescued a woman, two girls and a dog from a burning home Wednesday that he came across by accident.
Jake Houck, an EMT with the Albany County Sheriff's Office, was traveling back from another engagement when he saw flames coming from the back of an Albany home, WRGB-TV reports. As he approached the house, he was able to help a mom, her two daughters and the family's dog flee the flames through the front door.
In an online post, Sheriff Craig Apple praised Houck's quick response. He also pointed out that the EMT sheltered the three individuals in a county ambulance following the rescue.
The rescue came on a significant day for Houck: It marked his 15th year with the sheriff's department, according to WRGB.
