A fire damaged a vacant church in northeast Houston early Thursday, officials said.

Firefighters responded around 12:30 a.m. to reports of a church on fire near Fleta Drive and St. Louis Street, in the Settegast community, OnScene reported.

Neighbors said the church had been vacant for a year. Firefighters battled the flames for three hours and were mopping up hot spots around 4 a.m.

Arson investigators responded to the scene.
