IN Firefighter Injured During Residential Blaze

Fort Wayne firefighters were able to contain a blaze that started in a first-floor apartment of a multifamily home and sent one firefighter to the hospital.

An Indiana firefighter was injured during an apartment blaze early Monday.

The fire broke out shortly after 5:10 a.m. in a first-floor unit of a multifamily home just north of downtown Fort Wayne, WOWO-TV reports. Crews were able to contain the flames to the apartment, but other units sustained smoke and water damage.

A firefighter was taken to the hospital after suffering an injuring battling the blaze. No details were released about the nature of the injury or how it happened.

All the occupants of the apartments were able to safely escape the burning structure. Officials believe the fire started because of an electrical problem, according to WOWO.
