A two-alarm fire at a Jersey City scrap yard near Route 1&9 left one person injured and tied up traffic for miles.

The blaze occurred at 27 County Road, near the Manhattan Avenue exit of Route 1&9 South. Jersey City firefighters responded just after noon and placed it under control just after 2 p.m.

The highway was closed down in both directions as thick gray smoke filled the sky in the area.

One worker suffered minor injuries, with a laceration to the face, and was taken to a local hospital. No other injuries were reported.
