Police and a public works employee pulled one person from a fire that broke out and caused significant damage to a single-story home in State College.

STATE COLLEGE, PA—Two people and six first responders were transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center on Thursday after a fire broke out in a State College home.

Firefighters, police officers and emergency medical technicians rushed to the home at 801 Crabapple Court at about 2 p.m.

Two people were inside the home when the fire broke out. One adult resident who could not leave on their own was rescued by police and a public works employee, borough police Lt. Greg Brauser said.

The residents were transported to the hospital and the extent of their injuries is unclear.

Five police officers and one borough public works employee who were first on the scene were evaluated at the hospital for smoke inhalation, Brauser said. All borough employees were treated and released.

The single-story home at the end of a cul-de-sac suffered extensive damage and is not habitable. The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.

Westerly Parkway from Hamilton Avenue to Corl Street was closed for nearly two hours. Alpha and Boalsburg fire departments, Centre LifeLink EMS and Penn State EMS also responded.
