Two MO Firefighters Injured in Porch Collapse

The injuries to the Kansas City firefighters during a residential fire looked serious at first, but they were treated and released, according to an assistant chief.

Two Missouri firefighters were injured when an elevated porch they were on collapsed during a residential fire Thursday.

Kansas City crews responded to a house fire, with embers spreading to a neighboring home's attic, KCTV-TV reports. Flames caused significant damage to both houses, and three people were able to escape the fire.

During the call, two firefighters on a 12-foot elevated porch fell when the structure gave way. Assistant Fire Chief Jimmy Walker told KCTV that the injuries initially looked serious, but both firefighters were taken to the hospital and released.

Crews were able to put out the flames, and the cause of the fire was under investigation.

“If we hadn’t attacked this so aggressively, and done such a good job with our crews on the scene, we would have burned down to the end of the block,” Walker said.
