Fresno firefighters battled a fire that spread inside a mobile home community and threatened to burn down multiple units Wednesday night in northeast Fresno.
The initial call of a fire occurred around 10 p.m. with a report of a tree on fire.
But once crews arrived at the Trails End Mobile Home Park, they quickly discovered one trailer fully engulfed in flames and the strong winds spreading the fire to three other units.
Multiple engines soon after responded, too, at the mobile home park, which is located just east of the intersection of Sierra and Blackstone avenues and a few blocks behind the DMV.
Fresno Fire Battalion Chief Sean Johnson confirmed that two mobile homes were completely destroyed, and possibly a third. A fourth unit sustained minor damages.
In addition, one person suffered smoke inhalation. Firefighters did rescue one dog and several cats.
Johnson said firefighters, which consisted of 10 units from Fresno Fire and assistance from the Clovis Fire Department, ran into several issues while combating the flames: tight space, access issues, several residents in the park were in panic, and the strong winds were spreading embers.
"Our main challenge was to contain this fire from burning multiple, multiple, multiple units," Johnson said. "Fortunately, we held it to three."
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Wednesday's fire occurred close to where a previous fire within the trailer park community broke out and killed a man just six weeks ago.
A 56-year-old man died and another person was injured after two mobile homes caught on fire on April 30.
