SOUTHAMPTON, MA—A fire just after midnight destroyed a fire and security alarm business at 73 Gunn Road early Tuesday, said Fire Chief John Workman.
No one was injured in the fire, but the business, Security and Fire Integrations, was burned to the ground, he said.
The Southampton Fire Department was alerted by a fire alarm inside the business at 12:21 a.m., he said, and when the firefighters arrived on scene minutes later, the building was fully engulfed with flames, he said.
“It was a ball of fire,” he said.
Firefighters set up an exterior attack, directing streams of water onto the flames.
Southampton was assisted at the scene under mutual aid by Easthampton and Westfield firefighters, and by Westhampton, which sent a tanker truck.
The fire was out Tuesday morning, but the wreckage continued to smolder.
The cause of the fire is not determined, but it is not considered suspicious. The state Fire Marshall is investigating.
