Fully Involved Garage Fire Extends into WA Home

Nov. 19—A Washougal family was displaced after their house caught fire Wednesday night, according to the Camas-Washougal Fire Marshal's Office.

Fire crews responded at 9:06 p.m. to 1137 43rd St. The fire started in the garage and spread to the house, according to Deputy Fire Marshal Randy Miller. Two vehicles inside the garage were destroyed, and the roof of the garage collapsed, he said. The roof of the house also partially collapsed.

Miller said the house is likely a total loss. He estimated the property, the 1,700-square-foot house and cars were valued around $500,000.

Three residents were displaced but are staying with family, Miller said. No one was injured.

The fire marshal's office had not yet determined a cause, Miller said, because the roof is too unstable for them to go inside to investigate.

The Camas-Washougal Fire Department, East County Fire and Rescue, the Vancouver Fire Department and the fire marshal's office were on scene until about midnight, the deputy fire marshal said. Crews checked on the house throughout the day Thursday to be sure the fire did not re-ignite.
