Four FDNY FFs Hospitalized After Ceiling Collapse
Four firefighters were transported to local hospitals after a ceiling collapsed on them while operating at a four-alarm restaurant fire in Manhattan Tuesday morning.
The fire broke out in the Dragon One restaurant on the first floor and extended through the upper floors of the six-story building when the collapse occurred.
In an interview with ABC7NY, Assistant Chief Michael Gala said, "It was a drop ceiling with ceiling tiles with a wooden grid with tin and that dropped injuring four of our members....they are all non-life-threatening injuries, thank God, it could have been much worse."
In the video below, you can see the collapse occur at 44:34 when a ball of fire drops down on the firefighters.
Smoke conditions throughout the structure hampered firefighters as they worked to locate and control the spread of fire.
Multiple people were safely evacuated from the building and a dozen were displaced as a result of the four-alarm fire.
