PALM HARBOR — A woman pumping gas was killed at a Palm Harbor gas station on Wednesday when a driver backed into a fuel pump at a Palm Harbor gas station, pinning the woman and starting a fire, troopers said.
The fire started shortly after 2 p.m. at the Circle K at 3470 East Lake Road when a 66-year-old woman backed her Nissan sedan into a gas pump, causing the pump to overturn and pin another woman who was pumping gas into her Honda SUV, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The exposed gasoline erupted into flames, killing the woman who was pumping gas, troopers said.
Firefighters arrived to find the gas pump and the Honda vehicle already engulfed in flames.
Authorities did not release the name of the driver or the woman who was killed.
The Highway Patrol and the Florida State Fire Marshal are investigating the incident. No other details have been released.
