Jan. 25, 2022
Firefighters from multiple departments in Beaver County had to stop a freight train because the locomotive was on fire.

A train traveling through Beaver County near the town of Baden had to be stopped so firefighters could extinguish a locomotive that was on fire.

The Baden Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched Monday afternoon and found a locomotive with heavy fire conditions.

The train was located in an area with no hydrants available, so assistance was called for tankers to established a water supply and help battle the blaze, according a Facebook post by the Baden Volunteer Fire Department.

“First - everyone is safe. Following our procedure in this situation, the crew quickly brought the train to a stop and exited the lead locomotive - there was nobody in the trailing locomotive that caught fire," Norfolk Southern Railroad said in a statement to Channel 11 News. "The local fire department responded and extinguished the fire, and major damage was contained to that single locomotive.”
