Firefighters Battle Flames at FL Feed and Seed Store

Feb. 4, 2022
Gainesville firefighters battled an intense fire that ripped through a retail agricultural supply store.

Firefighters in Gainesville were alerted to a commercial building fire early Thursday morning at the Alachua County Feed and Seed Store.

When firefighters arrived, there was heavy smoke showing from the building’s eaves, according to Facebook post by Gainesville Fire Rescue.

Firefighters initiated an interior attack that was made difficult due to high heat and a heavy fire load.

Crews protected exposures to stop the fire from spreading and directed area neighbors to shelter in place.

Firefighters had to transition to a defensive operation due to deteriorating conditions, and the roof collapsing while they continued to address the exposures.
