One person and one pet died in a Thursday night fire in a Virginia Beach townhouse.

One person is dead following a Thursday night fire in a Virginia Beach townhouse.

Virginia Beach firefighters were called to the home, located in the 5500 block of Baccalaureate Drive, at 7:30 p.m. Five minutes later, firefighters arrived at the residence, which is near the intersection of Diamond Springs Road and Wesleyan Drive.

One person and one pet died in the fire, according to fire department spokesperson.

The fire was cleared at 4:59 a.m. Friday. The cause is under investigation.
