Heavy smoke and flames were visible as Portsmouth firefighters approached North Street Monday.
The fire went to two alarms as Portsmouth firefighters called for additional resources.
“The smoke was probably 8 or 10 feet above the house,” a neighbor, Josh Wynn, told WAVY.
“I saw the flames coming up from the third floor and then the firetrucks came and did their thing,” Wynn explained.
The fire remains under investigation.
