AZ Firefighters Called to Preserve a Colony of Bees

March 28, 2022
Firefighters with the Eloy Fire District were called to save hundreds of thousands of bees being transported.

Firefighters with Eloy Fire District were called to assist with cooling down a colony of bees after their transport truck broke down in the Arizona heat.

The tractor trailer carrying them broke down on Interstate 10 near Highway 87 in Pinal County.

The hives are typically cooled by the flow of air during travel, so coming to a stop in the record heat meant certain death if the bees sat uncooled for too long, according to a Facebook post by Eloy Fire District.

Firefighters sprayed a mist of water onto the hives to keep the bees cooled until the truck could be fixed and get back on the road.
