When Houston Fire Department members arrived, they found the man with a gunshot wound and alerted the Houston Police Department.

Jul. 11—When responding to a call about a possible "laceration injury," first responders from the Houston Fire Department arrived to find a man who had actually been shot dead, according to Houston Police Department officials.

When the firefighters arrived at the scene in the 9000 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard, they found the man with a gunshot wound and alerted the Houston Police Department, Lt. J.P. Horelica told On Scene reporters.

The man, believed to be in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene Monday night.

Initially, the Houston Fire Department had been dispatched around 10:15 p.m. to treat an injured person with a laceration, but that was not how things played out.

Police were at the scene conducting an investigation Monday night.

"At this time there are no witnesses, there is no evidence on the scene to determine if it happened here at this location or if he was dumped here later," Horelica said.
