Orange County Fire Authority firefighters used new personal thermal imaging cameras to locate and remove a fire victim Monday morning.

Orange County firefighters were dispatched to the intersection of Pearl/Crystal Cay for a report of smoke early Monday around 2:15 a.m., in Laguna Niguel.

Firefighters arrived to find a two-story dwelling with working fire conditions. During operations, firefighters were able to locate and rescue one adult male from the structure using a personal thermal imaging camera.

Firefighter/Paramedics treated the victim and transported him to a local hospital with unspecified injuries.

The Orange County Fire Authority in a Facebook post stated that crews “utilized one of our newest tools- personal thermal imaging cameras-to assist finding the resident. We are proud to have recently assigned each FF position one of these cameras they can wear on their turnout coats to assist in searches and self-rescue. A great addition that is already benefiting the community!”
