The Whitehall Fire Department was dispatched Tuesday afternoon for an appliance fire and reported nothing showing upon arrival. After further investigation and size-up, the deputy chief signaled heavy smoke showing from the door and ordered Engine 3 to stretch a hand line to the apartment on the first floor for a grease fire on the stove top that was extending. Engine 4 arrives next and brings water with it. By then, the fire is extinguished and the supply not needed. The companies ventilated and returned the companies. No injuries were reported.
