Plainfield Fire Territory and surrounding departments are battling a massive fire at a Walmart Distribution center.

No firefighters were injured when a mayday was called during a massive blaze at a Walmart Distribution center located just northwest of the Indianapolis International Airport.

Plainfield Fire Territory Fire Chief Brent Anderson said the mayday was called when two firefighters were unaccounted for. He said they were located within minutes and none were injured.

Firefighters got the call around noon for a fire at the 1.2-million-square-foot distribution center located on the 9500 block of Allpoints Parkway. Within minutes, fire crews arrived with heavy fire consuming the building.

Joe Aldridge, deputy chief of Plainfield Fire Territory, said Walmart believes all 1,000 employees at the distribution center are accounted for, and got out safely, according to WTHR 13.

Firefighters battled the blaze from the exterior as flames consumed the structure.

McKellar said firefighters encountered water issues at the scene, hampering their ability to pull an all-our fire attack.

Over a dozen departments responded to the blaze as of Wednesday afternoon.

The smoke cloud from the massive blaze could be seen on weather radar signatures with officials alerting residents to stay indoors with windows and doors shut.
