June 23, 2022
Sacramento firefighters dug a pit and submerged the car that kept self-igniting in a wrecking yard.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District were dealing with a very stubborn car fire when they came up with a very clever way to finally extinguish it.

Crews were called to a local wrecking yard when a Tesla, which was involved in an accident several weeks ago and suffered major dame, self-ignited.

According to ABC 7 Sacramento,  the car kept re-igniting due to heat from the battery.

"Working with the onsite wrecking yard personnel, the Tesla was moved on its side to gain access to the battery compartment underneath," the fire district told ABC 7. "Even with direct penetration, the vehicle would still reignite due to the residual heat."

Authorities said firefighters and yard staff eventually dug a pit and filled it with water to stop the vehicle from igniting and catching fire.

No injuries were reported.
